Carrizozo, NM – On June 7, 2023, at around 10:00 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and a passenger vehicle on US 54 in Carrizozo, NM.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2021 Chrysler Van, driven by Isaiah Carl, (23) of Logan, UT was traveling north on US 54 near mile marker 121. For reasons still under investigation, the Chrysler crossed into the southbound lanes of travel, striking a 2024 Volvo CMV, head on that was traveling southbound. Mr. Carl was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. A passenger in the Chrysler was transported to an area hospital. Their condition is unknown. The driver of the CMV was uninjured.
This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
