Chaves County, NM – On June 1, 2023, at around midnight, the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U. S. 285 milepost 114 north of Roswell.
The initial investigation indicated that for unknown reasons, Elijah Lamb, 29, of Crossville, TN was walking in the southbound lane of U.S. 285.
He was struck by a 2019 Dodge Durango driven by a twenty-seven-year-old female. Lamb suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Durango suffered injuries not believed to be life threatening and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their current condition is not known.
Alcohol appears to have been used by the pedestrian and is believed to be a contributing factor along with wearing dark clothing and walking in the lane of travel.
This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
