Albuquerque, NM – On June 2, 2023, at around 10:00 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving 2 vehicles on Interstate 25, north of Paseo Del Norte.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2023 Jeep SUV, was traveling northbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 235. For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep rear ended a 2003 Toyota pickup truck, causing the truck to roll over. Hector Beltran (66) of Santa Fe, NM, the driver of the Toyota, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the Jeep, 22-year-old Jonathan Lujan, was transported to an area hospital and then booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on DWI related charges. A 39-year-old female and 10-year-old female who were passengers in the Toyota, were both transported to an area hospital. Their conditions are unknown.
Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in this crash.
This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
