Shiprock, NM – On May 29, 2023, at around 2:20 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a single vehicle on US 491, north of Shiprock, NM.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2012 Toyota passenger vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old male was traveling southbound on US 491 near mile marker 95. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota struck a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling southbound on US 491. The rider of the motorcycle, Eddie Gilmore (65) of Crownpoint, NM was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
Speed appears to be a contributing factor in this crash.
This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the Crash Reconstruction Unit.
