Lincoln County, NM – On April 3, 2023, at around 9:00 a.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to U.S. Highway 54 at about milepost 130, north of Carrizozo for a crash involving a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck and a 2004 GMC Envoy.

 

The initial investigation indicates that the GMC Envoy, driven by Jay Drake Murrey, 25, of Nottingham, NH was traveling south on U.S. 54.  For unknown reasons, the Envoy crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound Kenworth semi-truck.

 

Mr. Murrey suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  The fifty-year-old male driver of the Kenworth was transported to an area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.  His current condition is not known.

 

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized.  This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
