Las Vegas, NM – On February 12, 2023, the New Mexico State Police learned of an investigation being completed by the Las Vegas Police Department in reference to allegations of a sexual assault involving New Mexico State Police Sergeant Kevin Keiner.

Immediately after being informed of the investigation, New Mexico State Police Chief Tim Johnson placed Sergeant Keiner on administrative leave and launched an internal investigation.

On February 15, 2023, the Las Vegas Police Department presented the case to the 4th Judicial District Attorney and an arrest warrant was approved for Kevin Keiner.  He is accused of criminal sexual penetration (2nd degree) of an adult female.

“Law enforcement officers are held to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and any act of misconduct by an officer erodes the confidence that the public has placed in us,” said Chief Johnson. “The New Mexico State Police will fully cooperate with the investigation. My officers work hard to establish trust in our communities, and we will not allow the actions of one officer to undermine our efforts.”

The Las Vegas Police Department is currently investigating these allegations. For details or media inquiries, please contact the Las Vegas Police Department. Sergeant Keiner has been employed with the New Mexico State Police for seven years and was assigned to the Uniform Bureau working out of the Las Vegas District at the time of the reported incident.
