San Juan County, NM – On February 4, 2023, at around 7:40 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 64, at about milepost 57 near Bloomfield, NM.
The initial investigation indicated that for unknown reasons, Jonathan Yazzie, 46, of Farmington was walking southbound in the eastbound lanes of travel of U.S. 64. He was struck by a 1997 Ford Ranger, and then again by a 2004 Lincoln passenger car.
Yazzie suffered fatal injuries in the incident and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. Alcohol does not appear to have been used by either driver. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police
