Fatal Crash in Albuquerque, NM

Albuquerque, NM – On January 21, 2023, at around 4:50 a.m. the New Mexico State Police responded to a fatal crash involving 3 vehicles on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 155.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2006 Honda Sedan driven by Wendy Hunn, age 50, of Albuquerque, was parked on the shoulder fixing a flat tire. A passing motorist parked behind the Honda to assist. A 2003 GMC pickup truck then crashed into the back of the assisting motorist’s vehicle, causing it to collide with the Honda Sedan.

Ms. Hunn suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The assisting motorist was injured and transported to an area hospital. Their condition is unknown.

There were two passengers in the Honda, one was transported to an area hospital for injuries, and the second was uninjured. The condition of the injured passenger is not known. The driver of the GMC truck was not injured. He was arrested by the Albuquerque Police Department. For details on that arrest please reach out to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this crash which is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit
