San Miguel County, NM– On November 20, 2022, at around 5:13 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 25 near mile marker 315 south of San Juan, New Mexico.
The initial investigation indicated a 2009 Cadillac SUV towing a 2015 GMC truck on a trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 25 in the passing lane. As the Cadillac attempted to pass a Commercial Motor Vehicle traveling in the slow lane of Interstate 25, for reasons still under investigation, the trailer being towed by the Cadillac and the Commercial Motor Vehicle collided. The Cadillac went through the median into the southbound lane of Interstate 25 and collided head-on with a 2022 Ford F-150. The passenger of the Cadillac Laura Orozco (20) of Fort Morgan, Colorado sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Cadillac, a fifty-three-year-old male, and the driver of the Ford F-150 a fifty-one-year-old male were transported to an area hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico where they were treated for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. The driver of the Commercial Motor Vehicle, a fifty-one-year-old male was uninjured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. No additional information is available at this time.
