  3. New Mexico State Police Investigates Fatal Rail Runner Train Crash in Sandoval County

Sandoval County- On July 24, 2022, at approximately 11:16 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a double fatal crash involving the New Mexico Rail Runner train and a vehicle, near milepost 15 of State Road 313, by San Felipe Pueblo, NM. 

 

The initial investigation indicates a 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUV, driven by Derrick Tenorio (30) of Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM, was traveling east on a private road towards State Road 313. As Tenorio attempted to drive across a private railroad crossing, the Jeep was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound New Mexico Rail Runner train. Tenorio along with a six-year-old female child passenger inside the Jeep sustained fatal injuries. They were both pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. 

 

This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Reconstruction Unit. For the privacy of the family, the child victim in the crash will not be named by the State Police.
