Sierra County, NM – On May 29, 2022, at around 10:20 p.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Warm Springs Boulevard and State Road 181 in Elephant Butte.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2019 Volkswagen was traveling west on Warm Springs Boulevard. For reasons still under investigation, the Volkswagen drove into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Warm Springs and State Road 181, crashing into a 2013 Lexus with four people inside. One of those individuals in the Lexus, 62-year-old Kyd Kendrick, of Truth or Consequences, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the Lexus and the other three occupants of the Volkswagen also received injuries of varying degrees and were transported to a local hospital. Their conditions are not known.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in this crash. The deceased individual appears to have not properly worn his seatbelt. All other drivers and passengers appear to have been using seatbelts. This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police, with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
