San Juan County – On May 16, 2022, at around 9:13 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on U.S. Highway 64, east of San Juan County Road 6400, near Farmington, NM.

The initial investigation indicated that, for unknown reasons, Keederson Benally, 53, of Upper Fruitland, NM was walking in the east lane of travel on U.S. 64. A 2022 Chevrolet Colorado was traveling east on U.S. 64 and struck Benally. Benally suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured and was released from the scene. That driver will not be identified unless charged with a crime.

The driver was not intoxicated at the time of the crash. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
