Rio Arriba County, NM – On May 14, 2022, the New Mexico State Police responded to NM State Road 512, Private Drive 1750, House #2 in Los Brazos, NM, in reference to an unresponsive male subject.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located a male subject who was identified as Danny Mahoney (63) of Los Brazos, NM, outside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot injury. Mahoney was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate the incident. Agents learned that a male subject identified as Michael Brian Keith (65) of Los Brazos, NM, saw his neighbor, Danny Mahoney, working in his yard. Keith stopped by to talk to Mahoney and sometime during the conversation, Keith shot Mahoney and left the scene.
Agents also learned there had been an ongoing dispute between Keith and Mahoney.
Michael Keith was taken into custody without incident at his residence #6 Private Drive in Los Brazos, NM, and booked into the Rio Arriba County Detention Center. Keith was charged with the following:
