Eddy County, NM – On March 15, 2022, at approximately 1:52 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving two vehicles near the intersection of NM Highway 200 and County Road 206, north of Carlsbad, NM.

The initial investigation indicates a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, driven by a Cecil W. Marks (70) of Carlsbad, NM, was traveling south on County Road 206 when the Dodge stopped at the intersection of NM Highway 200. For reasons unknown, the Dodge failed to yield and merged onto NM Highway 200. The Dodge was struck by a 2005.

International Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) that was traveling west on NM Highway 200. Marks was transported to the Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, NM, where he succummed to his injuries. The driver of the CMV, a 59-year-old male was uninjured.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and seatbelts were properly used by both drivers. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
