Luna County, NM – On March 5, 2022, at approximately 8:48 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a one-vehicle fatal rollover crash involving multiple occupants on Stirrup Road SE near Rockhound Road SE, south of Deming, NM.

The initial investigation indicates a 2011 Dodge pickup, driven by Nathan A. Turnbow (23) of Deming, NM, was traveling south on Stirrup Road SE. For unknown reasons, the Dodge left the roadway and rolled. A passenger, Karizzma Baker (21) of Deming, NM, along with three other passengers inside the Dodge, with ages ranging from 27 to 28 years of age, were all ejected from the vehicle. The driver, Turnbow, and the passenger, Baker both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.

The three other passengers in the Dodge all sustained unknown injuries. Two of the passengers were transported by air to a hospital in El Paso, TX and one other passenger was transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital in Deming, NM, and later transported by air to a hospital in El Paso, TX.

Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash. Seatbelts appear to have not been not properly used by all occupants in the Dodge. State Police generally does not identify the names of victims who are not charged with a crime. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
