Colfax County, NM – In March of 2021, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate allegations of multiple instances of criminal sexual penetration of a juvenile by Larry Guara (61) of Raton, NM.

Through an extensive eleven-month investigation, State Police agents learned the victim was Guara’s family member and the crimes occurred over six years, starting when the female was a young child. During the investigation, the child disclosed that on multiple occasions Guara sexually assaulted her.

On February 18, 2022, State Police agents were able to locate and successfully arrest Larry Guara without incident in Raton. He was booked into the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center on the following charges:

  • Criminal sexual penetration in 1st degree (child under 13 years of age)
  • Criminal sexual penetration in the 2nd degree (force or coercion, child 13 to 18)
  • Criminal sexual contact of a minor in the 3rd degree (child under 13 years of age)
  • Criminal sexual contact of a minor in the 2nd degree (child under 13, unclothed)
  • Criminal sexual contact of a minor in the 2nd degree (child under 13, unclothed)
  • Criminal sexual contact of a minor in the 2nd degree (child under 13, unclothed)

Larry Guara was booked on a no-bond hold. The identity of the child will not be released by State Police. No additional information is currently available.
