Sandoval County, NM – On January 7, 2022, the New Mexico State Police was requested by the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a fatal tractor-trailer crash on U.S. Highway 550 around milepost 47 near Cuba, NM.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling north on 550, when for unknown reasons it left the roadway and crashed into a ravine. The driver, Randy Joe Miller, 68, of Northglenn, Colorado, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. A 77-year-old-male passenger was injured and airlifted to an area hospital. His condition is not known.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly used. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
