Albuquerque, NM- On Friday, December 3, 2021, the New Mexico State Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted a Minor Compliance Operation in Albuquerque, NM. During the operation, SIU agents conducted a compliance check on a liquor establishment, the La Cantina Loca located at 6910 Montgomery Boulevard NE Suite E, in Albuquerque, NM, after receiving complaints of minors being allowed into the bar.

Upon a check for compliance, SIU agents utilized minors who attempted to enter and buy alcohol at the establishment. The minors were allowed entry into the establishment and once inside, they were able to purchase alcoholic beverages. Undercover SIU agents, who were inside the establishment witnessed the violations. The establishment along with several alcoholic beverage servers were issued administrative citations for violations of the Liquor Control Act.

On December 7, 2021, the violations were reported to the Alcohol Beverage Control. Upon their review, the liquor license for La Cantina Loca was revoked.

“Underage drinking is an issue our communities face in this state”, said Tim Johnson chief of the New Mexico State Police. “It is important that liquor establishments comply with New Mexico liquor laws and avoid selling alcohol to our underage youth.”

The New Mexico State Police SIU is currently working in collaboration with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office for pending criminal charges for the employees and the owner of La Cantina Loca. SIU agents have filed administrative citations for the La Cantina Loca liquor establishment and several of its employees.
