Socorro County, NM – On December 4, 2021, at around 10:00 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving two pickup trucks and a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) carrying an oversized load on U.S. Highway 60 near milepost 123 east of Socorro.
The initial investigation indicated that a Ford pickup truck driven by Doreen Greenwood, 49, with an 8-year-old female passenger, both of San Antonio, NM was traveling west on U.S. 60. The Ford pulled over to the right shoulder of the road to yield to an oncoming east-bound CMV carrying an oversized load. For reasons still under investigation, a Dodge pickup driven by a 74-year-old-male, also traveling west on U.S. 60 rear-ended the Ford, pushing it into the path of the oncoming CMV where the CMV and the Ford collided. Greenwood and the 8-year-old female were both ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Dodge, and the 58-year-old male driver of the CMV were uninjured. For the privacy of the family, NMSP does not name children via press release. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and seatbelts do not appear to have been properly worn at the time of the crash. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
