Guadalupe County, NM – On November 26, 2021, at approximately 1:58 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a double fatal Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) crash on Interstate 40, near milepost 301, east of Santa Rosa, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2017 Peterbilt CMV, driven by Jorge Felix Martinez Sanchez (50) of Orlando, FL, was traveling east on Interstate 40 when the CMV struck a cow in the roadway. After striking the cow, the CMV left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and overturned. The driver, Sanchez along with a passenger in the CMV, Travis Ruiz Pizarro (30) of Puerto Rico sustained fatal injuries and they were both pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts were only properly utilized by the driver. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
