Santa Fe County, NM – On July 23, 2021, at approximately 12:28 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a pedestrian that was fatally struck by a vehicle on State Road 14, near milepost 20, south of Madrid, NM.
The initial investigation indicated a 1990 Mazda Miata passenger car, driven by a 24-year-old female and a 29-year-old male passenger, were traveling north on State Road 14. For reasons unknown a pedestrian, Robert Maestas (29) of Albuquerque, NM was laying on the roadway of State Road 14, when he was struck by the Mazda. Maestas sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver and passenger in the Mazda were both uninjured.
Alcohol does not appear to a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly used by both occupants in the Mazda. The name of the driver and passenger will not be released due to no charges being filed. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
