Socorro County, NM– On April 1, 2021 at approximately 12:37 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal head-on crash on U.S. Highway 60, near milepost 187, west of Mountainair, NM.
The initial investigation indicated a 2004 Pontiac minivan, driven by Martina Pulido-Baca (65) of Belen, NM was traveling east on U.S. Highway 60. For unknown reasons the Pontiac crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic of the westbound lane and collided head-on into a westbound 2016 Nissan Altima passenger car, driven by a 70-year-old male of Mountainair, NM. The driver of the Pontiac, Pulido-Baca sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.
The driver and a passenger in the Nissan, a 67-year old female of Mountainair, NM, both sustained unknown injuries. The driver and passenger were both transported to a hospital in Albuquerque, NM. The driver was transported by an ambulance and the passenger by Lifeguard Air.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been utilized properly. The crash is under investigation by New Mexico State Police.
