Fatal Crash on Hidalgo Road in Eddy County
Eddy County, NM – On March 13, 2021, at around 1:07 pm, New Mexico State Police officers were alerted to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Hidalgo Road near McKittrick Road west of Carlsbad, NM.
The initial investigation indicates that a 1997 Dodge Dakota, driven by Justin W. Lackey, 31, of Carlsbad, NM was traveling west on Hidalgo Road. For an unknown reason, the Dodge left the roadway and rolled. Lackey was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
Alcohol was not a factor and a seatbelt does not appear to have been properly worn at the time of the crash. This incident is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
