Fatal Rollover Crash on Interstate 25 in Sandoval County

Sandoval County, NM – On January 1, 2020 at about 6:55 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal rollover crash on Interstate 25, near mile post 252 by San Felipe, NM.

The initial investigation shows a 1999 Cadillac, driven by Christian Martinez (18) of Rio Rancho, NM was traveling south on Interstate 25. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled. The driver, Martinez sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.

A passenger in the Cadillac, a seventeen-year-old female of Rio Rancho was ejected and sustained injuries believed to be non-life threatening. She was transported to a hospital in Albuquerque by ambulance. Her condition is unknown

Alcohol is suspected in being a contributing factor to the crash, and seatbelts were not properly utilized. New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and Drone Team assisted in the investigation. No other information is available.
