Eddy County, NM – On May 26, 2019 at about 6:09 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving two vehicles on U.S. 82, near mile post 117, east of Artesia, NM.

The initial investigation shows a 2017 Ford, driven by Francisco Adame Montemayor (21) of Cleburne, TX was traveling west on U.S. 82. For unknown reasons the Ford crossed over the center line into eastbound traffic and collided into the side of a 2015 Freightliner Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) that was traveling east. The CMV was driven by a 49-year-old male of Roswell, NM. The driver of the Ford, Montemayor sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. A passenger in the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Artesia General Hospital. The driver of the CMV was uninjured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have not been properly utilized by the driver and passenger of the Ford. No additional information is available.
