McKinley County- On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, New Mexico State Police Uniform Officers comprised of officers from Gallup and Grants conducted an illegal street racing operation in Gallup, NM, and surrounding areas.

The purpose of the operation was to curb the influx of street racing within the city limits of Gallup, NM, and surrounding areas and to raise awareness of safety to motorists.

During the 4-hour operation, officers made a total of 2 DWI arrests, 2 Misdemeanor arrests, and 1 Felony arrest. Officers also issued a total of 48 traffic citations for various violations.

“My officers are committed to keeping all motorists who travel these roadways safe”, said Tim Johnson, chief of the New Mexico State Police. “Operations like these help combat the illegal street and drag racing that continues to put the lives of motorists in unnecessary danger”

New Mexico State Police will continue to conduct proactive operations like these throughout the year. We encourage the public to drive safely and obey all traffic laws while traveling the roadways of New Mexico.
